World Food Day

October 16, 2013

World Food Day is celebrated each year on October 16th in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945. Its goal is to raise awareness of the issues behind poverty and hunger.

The World Food Day theme for 2013 is “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”.

A recent report published by the FAO shows that a whole third of the world’s food goes to waste, leading to 3.3 billion tons of CO2 released in the atmosphere. We should all do our best to reduce our waste.

Among other things, we should relearn to purchase food based on our requirements, redo our grocery list accordingly, use the deep-freezer better, recycle leftovers…

The SOSCuisine service is there to help you and help the planet. Tell your friends about us so that we can all cut down on waste together.
