Sugar pie, or sugar cream pie, is another dish that’s popular in specific areas of the United States as well. However, it migrated along with Acadians and other French Canadian communities. It’s sweet and an absolute treat, not to mention gorgeous looking. For a truly Canadian experience, try making it with maple syrup. Yum!

#3 – Hot chicken sandwich

Hot Chicken Sandwich

This sandwich might not be exactly what you think. It’s not spicy, and you certainly wouldn’t eat it with two hands, but boy is it tasty. The sandwich is full of perfectly roasted chicken (an absolute favourite of Canadians), and is then topped with enough gravy to fill a gravy boat. It’s definitely not an every day sort of a food, but it sure is delicious!

Nanaimo Bars or Squares are a wonderful dessert from the West Coast of Canada. Originating in Nanaimo, BC, these morsels are popular across the country. They consist of a crumble base that has, among other things, chocolate and coconut, a custard layer, and a fudge layer on top. Other varieties exist, including one with a green middle layer that’s slightly minty, but the classic is most popular. These guys are super rich, so a little bit is enough.

We invite you to try Cinzia’s version and see for yourself just how amazing it is. And for you Brits out there, we know it’s technically cottage pie.
